Meet Your Instructor

Hi! My name's Kristie, and I'm excited to be part of a team that's expanding opportunities for more more inclusive recreation in NEPA!

To help you get to know me a bit;

I believe in the healing power of play, how it brings people together and enriches our lives. There are therapeutic elements to leisure, innately through shifting to a growth mindset beyond our insecurities.  At Chakstone, I hope to help people explore increased physical activity as a fun tool for supporting happiness, health and wellness.

I found my "sweet spot" in the broad field of human services through roles that have allowed me to teach coping skills while using leisure as a tool. As an instructor, it's  rewarding to help people step out of their comfort zones and gain confidence through new and exciting activities. Sometimes we all could use some patience and encouragement to help with taking that first step.

My interests include: yoga, rock climbing, hiking and skiing.

  • BA in Psychology from Wilkes University

  • Pursuing Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS)

  • Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician

Focus Areas: I have worked in roles that have given me helpful experience learning to best support areas of diversity from a strength based approach.

  • Mentorship program for youth facing adversity.

  • Specialized camp and school programs for advanced support needs in mental health, physical disabilities and behavioral health.

  • Recreation instruction such as rock climbing, skiing, biking and kayaking.
